UX Designer

A Belgian public-sector organisation

What you will do

As an experienced UX Designer, you will design user-friendly interfaces and continuously improve the user experience of applications and websites for a Belgian public-sector organisation.

You will pay particular attention to maintaining and developing the design system. You will ensure that components, patterns and guidelines remain consistent, accessible and up to date, and you will support teams in using them correctly.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Participating in needs analysis and getting to know users and their environment to determine application requirements
  • Defining and planning research methods and helping to recruit participants to collect necessary information (interviews, surveys, focus groups, user testing, etc.)
  • Proposing the most suitable solution and designing low and high fidelity interfaces using a mobile-first approach
  • Assisting analysts and developers in designing user interfaces and ensuring the developed application meets user requirements
  • Ensuring that the graphic design of applications complies with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1)
  • Contributing actively to the design, management and maintenance of design systems
  • Maintaining regular and effective communication with clients and the team throughout projects

What we are looking for

  • Confirmed experience as a UX Designer with a strong portfolio (applications without a portfolio will not be considered)
  • Proven experience in designing, managing and maintaining design systems
  • Confirmed knowledge of Figma, Axure, Conceptboard and Mentimeter
  • Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
  • Bilingual in French and Dutch (active knowledge required)
  • Active knowledge of English
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams

The setting

This is a freelance assignment for 4 months, starting as soon as possible and running until the end of December 2026. The role is based in Brussels with a hybrid working arrangement. You will work full-time for a Belgian public-sector organisation.

Working languages are French and Dutch, with English used as needed.
