Functional Analyst

A Belgian public-sector organisation

What you will do

You will join a department of about 90 people working on a major business transformation programme, ensuring the handover, refactoring or greenfield development of new business applications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing strong and long-term relationships with stakeholders, including business and project stakeholders, team managers and partners
  • Identifying, analysing, describing and validating both existing business processes and new functional and non-functional user requirements in detail
  • Translating requirements into business solutions by creating functional analysis and application designs
  • Working together with technical team members to validate the functional design and create the translation to technical specifications
  • Providing end-to-end follow-up on the delivery of new functionalities and applications
  • Producing all documentation needed throughout the different stages of projects
  • Working closely with business analysts and developers under the supervision of project managers and coordinators to refine and validate proposed solutions
  • Collaborating with project managers to report status, facilitate decisions, manage risks and escalate as needed

Deliverables

You will be responsible for delivering the following, respecting project deadlines:

  • Analysis documentation
  • Software requirements specifications (including needed diagrams, analysis and more)
  • Data models
  • User stories
  • Test plans and cases

What we are looking for

  • Very good functional and business analysis skills to be able to assimilate complex material quickly
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with both business and development teams
  • Solution and customer oriented approach
  • Good ability to abstract complex material
  • Willingness to change business context regularly
  • Ability to integrate easily into an existing team and to supervise juniors
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Confirmed level in Agile/Scrum, BPMN, functional analysis (UML), test analysis and design, and UML
  • Junior level in Confluence, customer journey, SQL and user stories writing
  • The analyst function does not require technical tasks, but it is necessary to master the technical language in order to carry out functional analyses (APIs, mappings, business model, batches, services and similar concepts)
  • The application ecosystem relies on classic development technologies including J2EE, Java8, Oracle, Hibernate, Junit, Selenium, Maven, GIT and JIRA
  • Belgian nationality is required due to the nature of the activities

Languages

  • French or Dutch: active knowledge (understanding, speaking, writing technical documentation, reading) of one language
  • English: active knowledge for writing documentation
  • A good knowledge of the second national language is a plus

The setting

This is a freelance assignment starting as soon as possible and running until the end of December 2026 (4 months). The mission is long term and can be extended.

The role is based in Brussels with a hybrid working arrangement: three days per week working from home is possible.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7 hours 48 minutes per day.
