What you will do
You will work as Application Architect and Technical Leader within a programme that delivers digital solutions for child and maternal health services in the public sector. Your role covers architecture design, technical leadership, development, and quality assurance.
Your responsibilities include:
- Create and maintain software architecture documentation
- Design technical solutions based on functional specifications
- Define and enforce development best practices: clean code, SOLID principles, DRY
- Collaborate as technical expert with your development team
- Develop application modules and optimise code for memory management and response times
- Organise refactoring to simplify existing code
- Conduct code reviews and validate unit tests
- Validate deployment and delivery of solutions across different environments
- Ensure development quality aligns with enterprise standards
- Coach and mentor developers under your technical responsibility
- Communicate with stakeholders and provide regular feedback to the team leader
- Support the team leader in qualifying and estimating work packages
You will work on projects including a child health record system (0-6 years), a prenatal social care solution, and a vaccination data management platform. The environment is Agile/Scrum with a service-oriented architecture.
What we are looking for
Technical expertise:
- Expert level: Java, Spring/Spring Boot/JPA, JUnit/Mockito, REST/OpenAPI, DB2/MySQL, CI/CD deployment (Docker)
- Confirmed level: Angular 21/Material, Flyway, Scrum
- Junior level: IndexedDB/Dexie/Service Worker
Technology stack:
- Angular 21, Java 8/JEE7, Java 21, Spring Boot, NgRx, DB2, MySQL, Flyway
- Build tools: Apache Maven, Git/GitLab CI/CD, Nexus
Language:
- Native or fluent French (the mission is conducted exclusively in French)
Experience and approach:
- Proven experience as an Application Architect
- Strong focus on code quality, performance, and technical debt reduction
- Ability to mentor and guide development teams
- Collaborative approach with functional analysts, testers, project managers, and middleware specialists
The setting
- Freelance contract for 2 months initially (mid-November 2026 to end 2027 for the full programme)
- Hybrid working: minimum 50% on-site presence required in Brussels
- Agile/Scrum methodology
- Working exclusively in French
- Part of a larger team request including a Scrum Master and multiple developers
